The Kumon Experience

You’re Supported, Every Step Of The Way

You don’t need a background in education to become a franchisee. Many of our Instructors have had careers in many sectors and have experienced the benefits of the Kumon programmes themselves with their own families. This is a full-time business opportunity where you will build and run your own business while also helping children fulfil their potential. You will become part of a network of Instructors that share best practice along with the satisfaction of making a difference to children in your local community. Your Branch Manager and Area Manager will support you and offer advice in launching, running and marketing your Kumon study centre. There is a minimal start-up fee and Kumon offers generous subsidies to centres opening in specific venues or areas.

The Kumon Method Creates A Strong Business

Students often stay in Kumon for years

Kumon is unique among education franchises because it’s not tutoring.

Instead, you’ll guide children through an enrichment program that complements schoolwork while ensuring nothing is missed in maths, reading and writing. Students can stay for years as they work through the levels of the program, and parents often enrol all their children, offering you financial stability.

Help children become exceptional

With Kumon, you can offer parents a long-term solution to help their children excel academically in ways they never thought possible. Kumon helps all students develop critical thinking, increase focus, improve study habits, become more organised and learn to be problem-solvers.

Parents become very loyal

The extra enrichment children receive in Kumon helps them catch up, but it’s seeing them advance to work at levels well above their current grade and the skills they develop, including grit, time management and focus, that have parents so excited about Kumon. Offering Kumon to teachers and parents to help students reach their full potential benefits the entire community and makes lots of parents (and teachers) happy!

Costs and rewards of owning your own Kumon centre

A low level of investment towards your licence fee (contact for country specific costings). You need to budget an additional budget for marketing activity across your first 12 months of business. You need to allow for rent or hire of premises, as well as other minimal running costs. In the case of franchise re-sales, a fee is paid to the outgoing Instructor for taking over their business.

You’ll set your own fees, which parents pay to you directly. You’ll be aiming to have average subject numbers of 150-200 subjects in your centre. You’ll pay Kumon a fixed cost royalty fee for each student/subject, so it's easy to project your income. The Kumon royalty fee covers the Kumon learning materials, your ongoing training and support, and much more! You’ll also benefit from generous rent and fit-out subsidies towards starting up in a dedicated venue.

What’s the best thing about being a Kumon Franchisee?

"I also liked the idea of becoming my own boss and running a business but with a support network when needed. I soon realised that becoming a Kumon Instructor was to bring an array of opportunities. It was wonderful to feel a sense of excitement about the possibilities ahead."

Andy Newman

Hull, Anlaby Common

"I felt inspired [by my daughter’s experiences with Kumon] and wanted to support other children with their supplementary education. Now, I feel like I am changing lives when I am working with children. As a Kumon Instructor, I am part of the jigsaw puzzle in shaping children to become respectable citizens of society."

Minal Patel

North Harrow

"I was attracted to the idea of having my own centre where I could provide an individualised programme and support students to grow in their ability. No two days are the same and there are so many interesting things to do aside from running class."

Dipa Vithlani
